Life's Little Details

Where I go, my purse goes. Where my purse goes, my camera goes. And so it goes that I was able to record some of life's little details.

The beautiful green leaf is part of a white barked willow that hangs over our driveway. At certain times of the year it makes an unholy mess on whatever car is parked on that side of the driveway and I think there is an unspoken understanding in our household that whoever gets the clear side first always has first debs. I don't believe I've ever seen anyone voluntarily park under the tree if the clear side is free even in the dead of summer when there is shade.

A few days ago Don surprised me at work to pick me up at 4 p.m. He doesn't usually get off work until 5 or later so it was a nice surprise. We stopped at Starbucks on the way home and while sitting out on the patio, Don made a new friend. Now you have to understand that Don speaks cat. There is not a cat on the planet that he can't charm into his lap. This little feral kitty just jumped up into his lap like he was the Pied Piper playing his pipes.

Today as I walked out to the car at noon to pick up Krista for lunch and officially start my two weeks off, I noticed an odd little triangle shape hanging from beneath my car. From a distance it looks really strange but as I drew closer I discovered that Mother Nature had simply thrown together a bit of debris that got hung up on the undercarriage of the car. It was an amazing little bit of artwork nature had served up. I immediately bent down contorting myself so me and the camera were basically upsidedown. I pointed in the general direction of the debris and managed one "clear" shot. Several stages of cropping later, this is what turned out to be the best of the group. One of life's little details.

The photo of Don and the cat is precious - I love it. I just got a little portable digital camera to carry in my purse but I'm trying to learn how it functions a little more before I take it with me - now you've inspired me to just bring it along because one never knows when Nature will offer you some inspirational debris.
I liked your haiku too!

Glad you enjoyed the walk on my blog, I think you were right to be wary and not snuggle back to sleep, you might have stirred the little people from their slumber, and being cross they would put you under an enchantment. It is almost midsummer nights eve, best to be watchful, they are tricky beings! Loved the cat that Don charmed. Was that a fairy swing under your car? Love Daisy Lupin x

Sounds like a great day - off early, Starbucks, an observant eye and a cute cat with a sweet guy! Perfect!

The debris looks almost like a pattern for a piece of jewelry.

Annie, you're as bad as I am... hunkering down and twisting yourself to capture a little bit of perfect natural art! To heck with what the neighbors think! We just gotta get that shot! lol (It really does look like a fairy swing, I think.)

Anyway, always a pleasure to read your blog. I'm glad you have a Starbucks near you! And, you have the good fortune to be married to a Cat Whisperer. I married my Squirrel Whisperer 12 years ago; alas, we moved to an area populated by chipmunks, a language he doesn't (yet) speak. It's just as well... I can't tell you how many times I poked my head out the back door to find my husband sitting in the yard, making clicking noises, with bushy-tailed squirrels sitting on his shoulder. I drew the line when he started teaching them to come to the kitchen door for pretzels and bits of stale bread!

Cheers!

Toni

That is a great shot of the leaf. I can never get my shots to have that blurry background. I love that look.

So was Krista being a Pissta that day? haha.

A man who attracts cats is a special man, indeed!

I love this post and how you choose to take the time to appreciate the small gifts in life. So inspirational . . .
