Baby Blanket

Years ago I did basic crocheting then stopped. Last year I started knitting but then I stopped that too. I found some of my old crocheting work and thought I might like to start that again. Then my SIL gave me a gift certificate for a yarn shop so I knew crocheting was on my horizon again.

Last week I was going through some of my mom's stuff and found yarn and a granny square that she must have started before her stroke several years ago. The square seemed to speak to me to start up again and not waste any time. I picked up the square and hook and after a bit of time figured out what to do.

This little blanket, when I start was only about four rounds into the central blue color. A week later it is finished. Along the way I learned a very important lesson. Always be sure the weight of the yarn you are using is the same throughout. The blanket is a little wavy. But I feel a strong connection with my mom with the completion of this blanket and I'm already hard at work trying to master the art of making that first connection to get the basic square going. So far, well . . . I have a lot to learn.

Annie, I haven't been around much lately....life keeps getting in my way! But I'm so glad I came by tonight to see your blanket. I love to crochet, and I think you did a great job on this.

It looks lovely and I'm glad that you've got back into the swing of crochet again, especially when it holds such memories for you.

Have a great week :)

Annie, it is the most beautiful blanket I have ever seen.

To finish something that was started by your mum is a little like the story of life itself, one goes on and continues down the road travelled by the family through the generations.........yes it is a beautiful blanket of many colours. ((hugs)) Lee-ann

A lovely blanket, Annie - even more so that your mother began it and you completed it. And now you're rediscovering forgotten talents. Wonderful! xo

That is very pretty Annie and such a special little piece of Love that you and your Mom worked on. Maybe you can give it to your 1st grandchild.

What a neat heart connection between you and your mom.

I tried knitting for about a year and then set it aside when life intervened and haven't gone back to it. Now that the weather is warming up I will probably leave it until fall (if then). I found it enjoyable and relaxing, so it would be a good thing to revisit, but I'm just unwilling to pay $100 to buy yarn for a sweater and how many caps and scarves does a girl need?

About the center of your granny square...I say Google it. I crocheted while growing up, by I don't remember how to start a granny sqaure. Happy hooking! (OK, I meant than in a good way.)

Nothing is perfect. We are all a little wavy because of our different layers. This is sweet and looks like your mother made her baby girl a sweet blanket through your hands. Or maybe it is for a grand daughter on the horizon. Sweet Annie. Keep up the good work. I miss crocheting.

After my mother died I couldn't crochet for years. It was too personal and made me so sad. But a few years ago my aunt, her sister, got me crocheting again and now I feel so much at peace when I crochet. I understand why you needed to finish that piece. So nice that you did.

My mom started a bedspread, she passed. Her mom tried to finish, she passed. Grandpa used it in his dementia, he passed. My good friend finished it and I feel like they are all in that blanket. Your mom would love to know you finished it and it looks great! XXOO

Annie: What a tribute to your mom.

Amazingly you stirred a memory I had somehow forgotten with this busy life.

When my mom passed away, 14 yrs ago, my sister and I found quilt pieces she had never put together. We both said we would finish it...to my shame I completly forgot about that until reading your post.

I'm going to call my sister and see if she still has them...if she does, I want to do as you, and finish the quilt as a honor to my mom.

Thanks for an inspiring Post and beautiful music.

Some how you were deleted in my favorites--I'm blaming gremlins, but it was probably me having a brain freeze, still I'm blaming gremlins--so I apologize. Nice to be back and seeing what you are doing.

Very pretty, I think it would make a sweet blanket to wrap around at night with a good book!
