A.M. Coffee Break

Sunday morning I drove down to Merced and hooked up with my brother and his wife, Dave and Yolanda. The plan was to settle in at the local Starbucks and drink the morning away with a dash of conversation to sweeten. It was a beautiful morning. The heat had subsided a bit and we tucked ourselves into comfy, overstuff chairs by the window.
This picture is a bit of a kick because its David's first paycheck from Starbucks. YES, paycheck. Here's the deal. Dave teaches middle school sciences and is planning his Masters in Education Administration. So, why Starbucks? Well, aside from it being his main wateringhole when he has time to kill, he is also a restless kind of guy. With no teaching for 2 1/2 months, Dave would have gone stir crazy without something to keep him busy aside from his first garden (next picture) and the occasional trip to the beach with his surfboard.

So Dave's hanging out one day talking with the counter folks and he makes a crack about being at Starbucks so much, he should be working there. Well no sooner were the words uttered than it happened. Which brings us to the picture here. First paycheck. No, he wasn't working this day. We were all just hanging out having fun.

P.S. Ally just visited me from her blog and I just read her most recent post. It's one of the best things I've read recently. Click here to read it. It's a treat but also it's a great homily on day to day life.

That's a good second job for a restless person. Although I'd be afraid that after working there for awhile I'd learn to hate coffee-- which wouldn't be good at all.

Seems like a new Starbucks is appearing every time we turn around. I've lost count of how many we have within 5 miles! And they all stay busy!!

What's really interesting Susie is how few Starbucks there are in Oregon as opposed to other coffees. During our recent trip we noticed that you could barely drive a block without encountering a coffee kioske. They were everywhere, literally. Oregonians sure like their coffee, just not necessarily Starbucks (though we DID see a few).

Yeah! Wish I had been there. A picture of all four of us would be too cool.

I'm headed off to Austin today. My first experience with acupunture!! Now, how cool is that?????? :-)

I love Dave's garden! Sweet faces, both. We're in a heat wave: got up to 76 yesterday.
