Just when you think that life has no more "Firsts" for you to experience, one comes along. Granted, I know in my heart that "Firsts" are always within us. After all, a pulse equals life and life equals actions of one sort or another. So - today - I committed an action. Today, at 60 years of age and counting, I have committed a "First".
Today . . .
. . . I submitted poetry for publication. In fact, I submitted TWO poems. And along with that, I submitted a photograph as well.
Oddly enough, it isn't the end result that I'm looking forward to. Now that I've committed to submitting, the results will be what they are. For me, the hardest part was and still is, the actually submitting. I may not ever break that particular nut entirely but I have certainly given it a good crack.

Yeah, you go, Annie. You'll soon get addicted to submitting. I've papered my walls with rejection slips, which are inevitable. All they do is to encourage me to try harder.
The thing to remember about submissions is that they tell you they want one thing, but the thing they really want is what they don't know and can't express as they haven't seen/read it yet. You'll be amazed at what a freeing activity submissions are when you learn to handle the good with the bad. I've had pieces turn down by one group win a cash and prestigous prize from another and vice versa. Weird, but fun.
Way to go Annie...... I think it's wonderful you've chosen to take that first step. Hopefully the nut will be hacked wide open!
XOXO

May I have your autograph now please.
Good for your Annie *!*
Congratulations!
I am so proud of you. You challenged yourself and accepted the challege. And as you said, that is the most important thing. It is never too late. Sixty is young, and as you said, retirement is not that far away.
Julie
good for you! i know the first time is the hardest, at least it was me because i compared myself to other writers out there and always my own worst critic, i felt i was not yet prepared enough. if you are rejected, do not despair, it is merely your baptism into these waters.....
good luck and you're entirely right, the first submission is the hardest, after that it becomes easier.
Your first step was a giant step...congratulations...you are a winner for doing that!
:-)
I'm so glad to hear that you submitted a couple of your writings. I can't wait until I can say to someone...'oh, I know her! She's a fabulous writer!'
Your writings are so to the heart! I love all your words.
Good luck with the poems!
Thank for your kind comments on my photos :)
You go girl! Shine on!
Good for you, Annie!! Way to go.
We are about to submit a query on our novel...a first at ages 65! Ain't it fun?!?
How's you Latin Mass progressing...still going there? We are still moving forward toward the Southern Cone...with San Joaquin. From the liberal press and liberal blogs, you would think our dear bishop has horns and a tail...but he's sticking to his gun. Please pray for his family, as they are going through some terrible issues at this time, too.
How wonderful Annie, that's the spirit! I love your work, I am sure the world will too.
The first step is always the hardest. Good for you, Annie! xo
