The Grand Canyon

Kris and Chad - the reason for the trip
Reunited for a few days after six week apart.
Chad is working these days with a big helicopter company that works out of the Grand Canyon.

This is Krista's first sight of the Grand Canyon. For anyone who has never seen it, you just cannot KNOW how immense it is. Pictures do not do it justice. Yes, big is big but SEEING it is a whole other thing. Kris' first glimpse was from the road through trees. She just about gave herself whiplash when she realized what she was seeing.

There was still a lot of snow in the canyon. The North Rim is closed from October through May There was actually a snowfall just a couple of days before we arrived in Williams so seeing the snow wasn't too surprising.

It doesn't take much to make me dizzy when it comes to heights. I can't even get on a low diving board without my head swimming on me. That I actually got out on this point was an accomplishment entirely due to the fact that there was a metal fence barrier to hold onto. Nevertheless, holding on was still a white knuckle experience for me and walking and turning from one side to another was a slow process.

Look closely in the lower left of the picture.
There is a suspension bridge spanning the Colorado River.

It was really bright and me without my shades. Typical.

I love the grand canyon. To me it is the earth exposed and layered for each of us to see history! Such a sense of awe and other-ness when I go there.

The phenom you descirbe of losing balance is a brain wobble. It can be over come if you want to work that hard. Personally, it's just easier to stay away from the rim for me, but the other is there if you want to.

From A Friend

Annie...what beautiful photos of the Grand Canyon. I was there in
1979...I did a camping trip all across the United States. (by myself)I traveled for 3 months. If my daughter did that I'd be livid. lol One benefit of traveling alone was that I didn't have to compromise and see stuff that I didn't want to. I had my KOA campground book and stayed where there were hot showers and electric. I did get stuck twice...(I didn't have reservations anywhere) once at the grand canyon I had to camp at a place 50 miles away with no facilities. Another time I ended up camping along a road in Colorado...until I heard the coyotes yapping and then I spent the night in the truck. I had a wonderful time...I went white water rafting on the Colorado on a 3 day camping trip. (Moab, Utah) and lots of other interesting stuff. I went from coast to coast. Well anyway thanks for sharing the photos and info. I'm glad that you had a wonderful time!

It's such an awesome place to visit. Your photos are beautiful but I really had to hold my breath while looking at the one of you "on the edge" as I'm the same way. I have an extreme fear of heights especially wide open ones! You're brave to do that!

Thanks for sharing your Easter trip with us. When we go to Grand Canyon, we usually go to the North Rim; too bad it was still closed. The South Rim is more commercial, the North Rim more undisturbed.

Dear Annie, looking at your photos of the Grand Canyon is so lovely and brings back some great memories of a time in 1990 when I flew over them to the east coast of your beautiful country and I think I was the only person in the plane looking down and seeing the beauty right below.

It is so lovely to be visiting you dear friend tonight and I must go and read your other posts the 5 weeks have gone so fast but I am pleased to be here tody.

Your friend Lee-ann
