A Bit of Excitement Today

We found a small tortoise in our side yard this morning. He's about the size of a softball. I just left it with the vet. The wildlife rescue center will take custody to determine if he's native to our area.

I texted the photo to Krista who, even though we didn't keep him, immediately named him SPEEDY. The rescue center won't release it to the wild and it's likely that Speedy will relocate to a tortoise rescue center.  OR - Dr. B at the vet clinic will be allowed to keep him in his very large terrarium.  I'm cheering for TLC from Dr. B.

Believe me, Sandy. I thought about it. But I just couldn't bear the idea of him escaping from the yard and ending up as roadkill. So I opted for safe haven.

Hi Annie, That was nice of you to rescue the tortoise. Hope Speedy does well... (I've never heard a tortoise named Speedy though... ha ha)

Hope you have a blessed Sunday.
Hugs,
Betsy

So glad you took him to a rescue center -- I know they'll do the best for him!

No worries, Ginny. He has a safe future. Between Dr. B or tortoise rescue people, he will have a good, safe life.

They are a protected species here and one has to have a license. Guess it is the same there.
