Just getting a little something off my chest.

We are living in terrible times and I feel like I have been hearing/saying that my entire life.  Age gives us the perspective of time, the ability to look back and be appalled. It's worse today than it ever was because there is the  w.w.w. now and social networking, and blogging, and . . . and . . . and - the list is endless.

It used to be that art imitated life. Now it's life imitating "art". With communication making the world (for us any) an impossibly small place, it's not surprising that our society is devolving. There is a term in psychoanalysis - the pleasure principle - that among other things speaks to our human impulse to seek instant gratification. I think in our society today we are reaching a breaking point and the pursuit of common sense, discipline, and personal responsibility along with avoidance of self-indulgence and an "if it feels good, do it" mentality needs to swing back and find a sensible and balance middle ground.

Well said! Jack and I also call it the Me, Me world. What's in it for Me, what does it gain Me, etc. we have gone from doing for others first and wanting to help others and work together to wanting it all for ourselves, only thinking of ourselves and being an individual.

Hi Michelle - If I could click a "Like" on your comment, I would. So just consider yourself clicked and "Liked". **smiles**

Well, I agree with everything you say, but I just can't take my eyes off this picture!

I know the feeling, Ginny. The original picture is very pretty but like our society now, it's become very twisted. Still looks good but changed and twisted.

Great post, Annie. You really caught my attention when you talked about "instant gratification"... So TRUE!!!!!

Another thing I think about when I think of today's generation of people is "Me Me Me".... I'm in it to ME and heck with everyone else.

We certainly do need to back up to times past ---and find that balance in life. Think that will happen???? I'm not sure ---but with God's help, I will live the best BALANCED life I can in this crazy world.

Hugs,
Betsy

yes, yet there are pockets of the population that is coming from where you are and I trust that it will balance out ~ aging society will take care of it ~ always lovely to have you stop by ~~thanks, namaste, (A Creative Harbor)

Something to think about! However, I will not blame anyone for being like this or that but I'll look in the mirror and see where I can change. :) Thanks for reminding me.

Well said, Annie. Well said. You really nailed it -- our world has become so small, I sometimes wonder what pulls people apart in the way they are. A recent suicide at a school playground here ended up being one of Greg's friends since Kindergarten. No one knows quite why (I suspect someone does, but we don't) -- only that a family is mourning and a life with great promise and big dreams is no longer here. If only he could have found his middle ground.
