Faith and knowledge are divine in nature and complimentary methods of understanding God and the world. Reason and faith are, therefore, not contradictory at all. Faith, being divine, is above reason in the hierarchy of truth . . . This argument is not accepted by modern secular thought since faith cannot be proven. It is beyond proof. If it could be proven, it would be a philosophy. To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary; to one without faith, no explanation is possible. Reason further supports faith but it does not give a foundation of approval. Our deepest notions of truth, liberty, conscience, equality, and compassion are derived from a Jewish/Christian civilization which accepts the complementarity of faith and reason.

As said "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary" just to see colour and light flooding through the windows is enough proof for me!

And yet it's not a contraindication to most of us.
ReplyDeleteMy "good friend" Blaise Pascal has a lot to say about this issue.
We all act in every little detail in a faith about tomorrow, even though there is no guarantee it will come.
We believe in promises of politicians, in the power of money,in the growth of a seed, in solar systems to far away for the imagination to understand, we believe in the effect of a Placebo pill and get cured, but we don't believe in our Creator. How can that be?
Mostly we believe in what we think we understand, even though it's fiction, but we are led astray from the truth.
Oh, that we must be grated courage to tell the world or our neighbor about the faith we have, salvation in Jesus Christ.
