My Welcome Mat at Work

The lake is exploding with life this morning. Males are chasing, as yet, uncaught females. Females, heavy with unladed eggs, awkwardly waddle about surrounded by their escorts. Mothers sheppard their broods through grass, rock and water. KCSS is playing an operatic piece as I drive into the parking lot at work. The piece is a perfect match for the scenes playing out around me as I leave the cool cocoon of my car to go into the warm and oppressive cocoon of my work.

Thanks, Anne, and up here the deer are snooping around, and the birds are going wild. It's Thursday, one more to go. I'll be at the Fiber Festival on Sunday, working from 11-2 at the Galleries. Will I see you there?

Anne, take another look at the photo - the reflections!

Ducks are doing what ducks do here too. I've posted a picture of a drake with her suiters on my blog for you.

You replied to that at amazing speed, even before I remembered that a drake is a boy duck! You are right, why are there so many more of them than the lady ducks? Glad you liked the picture.
We have a lot of Muscovy ducks here. Really ugly great things. I'll see if I can find a photo.

The Haiku book sounds god. Do it!

Ducks are always enjoyable to watch. We get them throughout our neighborhood this time of year and they seem to love our lawn and the occasional sprinkler, even more so than dry bread offerings.

Since I've not shot any ducks this season (no pun intended *g*), I'll leave you a link to a duck couple we saw in our yard a lot last year.
