Taphophile Tragics

In 1977, I was in my last year at UC Riverside.  A history class during that last year introduced me to Agua Mansa Cemetery in San Bernardino County.  It was an old decaying cemetery then and 35 years later, it still is.  Back then there were, of course, no digital cameras and the pictures I took are tucked firmly away with the research I gathered at the time.  Tucked away in a box and not surfacing easily.

I've always had a soft spot for this particular cemetery.  It is here that I trace my love for old cemeteries and hopefully the research and photos will surface soon and I can share my own work here.  Today, as I was exploring for Agua Mansa online, I ran across an image that lead me to a blog.  I scrolled through two years worth of posting and found, to my delight, Hoboannie's  forgotten graves of  Agua Mansa Cemetery.

Cemeteries are interesting places to explore, especially with a camera. I hope your old photos of Agua Mansa turn up.

The graves are so unusual, the skull, and the little broken heart...this old blog of yours, I have never heard f it, and you posted on it as late as 2010? i love this church that you posted earlier, wonderful walls and windows. So no membership, just mass, too bad.

I live close enough to check that out.

There is one I love in Rubidoux, but don't know the name of it. I just took photos awhile back and in fact, now I think of it, didn't you mention about this cemetary?

I don't think I can retrace my love a cemeteries to any particular point. I just always loved them for as long as I can remember. Great post!

Oh, yes, Annie, do please try to dig out your old shots of Agua Mansa Cemetery. What I saw on Hoboannie's blog looked entrancing. I love a graveyard that is bedraggled and overgrown. Such history. I love how you can remember how you got to first visit Agua Mansa, and how it made you feel.

Go go ... go and have a hunt through boxes in the attic ...

It looks like a lovely setting for a cemetery.
