Haiku My Heart - In with the old

After leaving Don Juan Foods on Tuesday (See HERE), we drove around the corner to The Treasure Chest, a non-profit thrift store.

I'm always on the lookout for Marys and this visit provided me with a watershed moment.

I love the Mary with broken arms on the lower left.  I think I will wrap a bit of fabric ribbon over her shoulders to cover them . . . or maybe just leave her as is.

The kneeling Mary next to her really excited me because of her black face and features.  Most unusual.

The broken Guadalupe?  Well, it IS Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Couldn't pass her up just because she was broken.

The kitschy little blond Mary surrounded by plastic flowers was a surprise find.  I tried to cut off the wire stems but they weren't having it.  So - I cleaned it all off getting rid of a ton of dust and dirt.  Didn't she clean up nicely?

And last but not least, in the background is a sweet white ceramic Mary.

Broken Mary rise
Live day to day within me
Healing me heals you

Weren't you the lucky one! So many Marys. I like your ideas about covering up the broken arms. I will have to be on the look out for a black Mary. I look at statues and dolls through my great-granddaughter's brown eyes now. Her dad is a wonderful African-American and has changed my vision of life.

The Marys are all so beautiful.
I like the the idea of keeping the broken arm visible.
Mary's wounds were many, it is a timely reminder.

After participating in A Virgn a Day, I've been missing our daily gatherings to share our Marys...what a joy it is to see your collection and know how you cherish them - even in their disrepair - while they were doing the same for you! Wonderful post!

I think Mary with the broken arm, and other broken parts, points to Mary whose heart was broken beyond our ability to comprehend.

I love that these Marys found you. They of anyone know love, they truly do, and so they've been waiting for you to bring them home... I wonder what stories they will whisper to you over time... where they have been, who else has loved them, how they came to be in the thrift store. I could not pick a favorite here, I love them all. Your haiku is so powerful and resonating in me. Thank you Annie. XO

Yes, the stories these women hold and that they found their way to you. Many black virgin Mary's in many different cultures, I saw the black virgin in Monserrat in Spain, just wonderful!

happiest of holiday wishes to you!
