Monday Morning with Mary

Pope Francis presented Pope Emeritus Benedict with this beautiful icon of Our Lady of Humility. He said "When I saw this picture of the Madonna of Humility, my thoughts turned immediately to you."

Madonna of Humility refers to artistic portrayals of the Virgin Mary which depict her as a Madonna sitting on the ground, or sitting upon a low cushion. She may be holding the Child Jesus in her lap.  The term Virgin of Humility is also used to refer to this style of depiction.
Humility was a virtue extolled by Saint Francis of Assisi, and this style of image was a product of Franciscan piety,  first developed by them for contemplation; the word humility, from the Latin humus, meaning earth or ground.

i am greatly moved with pope francis and his heart for humility. truly this is a virtue to embrace. to have a heart for all, to not see any separation for the heart and soul of anyone, regardless of their "station" in life.
thank you for sharing a beautiful and inspiring petition for humility with all your readers and, mornings with mary, a heart warming meme i hope will reach the hearts of many.

This is very beautiful. I don't know that much about how the Catholics interpret Mary, other than that she is a major figure (as she is to all Christians, I believe -- but differently.) But I think this is lovely.

I don't know much about him yet, but I really do like Pope Francis. He seems so real.
