When Life Gives You Lemons . . .

. . . make lemonade.

A couple weeks ago I bought a laptop.  After going to five different stores and failing to find a laptop tote that I liked, I went online.  I had three specifications; it had to be pretty, roomy, and made of cotton.  And I found it.

This is what I ordered

THIS is what I got

I was baffled at first.  I thought I had perhaps overlooked it having wheels.  But it was everything I asked for plus it had room left over for weekending.  This thing can carry clothes for an overnight, my laptop, a camera, all the cables, books, magazines, EVERYTHING.  I could probably also squeeze in my very small girlfriend,Marie, into the darn thing. So I told Don I didn't need the box.

But I couldn't let go of the fact that I had missed the wheel description so I checked my order slip and sure enough, they had sent the wrong item. Discovering that, I sent an email telling them the wrong item had been sent and asked how I could get the laptop tote I wanted.  Then I told Don.  Then Don told me he had already busted up the box to put in the recycler.  Then Kris stopped by and was all about how cute the bag was and I'm thinking well, I'll keep it after all.  BUT . . .

. . . that damn email is out there.  Now I've changed my mind.  So, what to do?  Do I wait to see what their response is?  Can they charge me for the extra that this case costs?  It's PLENTY.  I don't think so because it was their mistake.  Can this really turn into a big mess?  I would return it if they paid shipping but I still have to buy a box because of my bad timing on saying I didn't need the box.

I think for now I'll wait for their response.  Who knows.  Maybe they will say keep it and they'll send the correct item.  Yeah, right.  LOL  The only one who does that is Anthropologie. Yes, they do.  I ordered an item that arrived broken and they took my word for it and replace it without the return.

So, we'll see.  Stay tuned.

Well, what you ordered is just adorable. What you got is very pretty, but not as cute as what you ordered. Plus if you want to run out with your laptop, you can hardly put it in the big wheely thing and wheel it around!! Frankly in all fairness, I think they should let you keep it at no extra charge since it was their mistake! And if you want your original order, you shouldn't have to pay shipping. Let us know!!!

My thoughts exactly, Ginny. In my perfect world, I GET IT ALL. HaHa.

Under British law and distance selling laws, if the company gives you a product different to what you ordered it is on their own shoulders because it is their fault. You as a consumer have the full right to request that they take it back and swap it for what you wanted, but if they have given you something you're happy with and have not noticed the mistake themselves, they cannot charge you more (you enter into a binding contract to buy something at that price, regardless of what they send you). Also, large companies like Amazon are usually good about such things when you contact them. Don't fret, I imagine your laws are very similar to ours and aim to protect the consumer.

It's a cute trolley-bag too :)

Funny, or not? Hmm...guess time will tell. Hope you get both of them, cause don't you deserve it?

What a schlep! I hate it when that happens and it does happen. In South Africa we have the new consumer protection law and that states that they have to replace the item with the correct item, they have to pay for the box and the postage for the article to be returned to them. After all, they already have your money and you have the effort :(

I'm on my way out the door, but... Do you remember where you were yesterday and the discussion? Going on hot and heavy. Interesting. b.

I think the one you ordered is prettier. And I agree with Ginny, I think they should let you keep it since it's their mistake.

Amazon did that to me once. They sent me the wrong book and when I pointed it out, promptly sent me the one I ordered and they let me keep the first one!
